Tendency toward change for administrators in education unions

Abstract (EN)

This research aims to examine administrators' tendencies toward change in education unions in Turkey. The sample of the adaptation study was 220 volunteer members of the education unions from Eğitim-Bir-Sen, Türk-Eğitim-Sen, Eğitim-Sen ve Eğitim-İş across Turkey. To determine administrators' tendencies toward change in education unions in Turkey, Ankara province was chosen as the sample, and 311 participants were the administrators working actively in education unions in Sincan, Mamak, Keçiören, Çankaya, Etimesgut and Yenimahalle sub-provinces in Ankara. The data of the research was collected via a scale "Tendency toward Change for Administrators in Education Unions" which is developed by the adaptation study of "Tendency toward Change Scale" (Akbaba-Altun & Büyüköztürk, 2011) designed for school administrators. The adaptation study of "Tendency toward Change Scale" and factor analysis to choose item showed that the scale had five factor structure. The factor structures which are called as believe in change, entrepreneurship in change, administrating the process of change, not coping with change, and resistance to change, were supported with the affirmative factor analysis. One-way variation analysis, Kruskall Wallis-H test and t-test for independent samples were applied to find out whether or not there is a significant difference between administrators' experience, title, gender, field of study and their tendencies toward change; believe in change, entrepreneurship in change, administrating the process of change, not coping with change, and resistance to change. The results of the study were stated below: 1. 311 administrators in education unions in the central districts in Ankara, Turkey have tendencies towards change such as believe in change, entrepreneurship in change, administrating the process of change, not coping with change, and resistance to change. These tendencies have been ordered as resistance to change, believe in change, not coping with change, administrating the process of change, and entrepreneurship in change. 2. There is a statistically significant difference between tendency in believe in change, entrepreneurship in change and not coping with change according to administrators' experience in education unions. 3. There is a statistically significant difference in tendency of administrating the process of change according to administrators' title in education unions. 4. There is a statistically significant difference between tendency in believe in change according to administrators' gender in education unions. It is found out that males have much more tendency in change compared to females. 5. There is not a statistically significant difference among tendencies in change according to administrators' field of study in education unions.
