Reflections of educational inequalitties on classroom practices and students' development areas

Social inequalities also have an impact on education, which is a social field. These inequalities have a significant impact on students and teachers, two key actors in the field of education. In order to accomplish this, we examined the effects of educational inequalities on classroom practices and student development areas in our research. In the scope of the study, semi-structured interviews were conducted with 25 teachers working in various school types and levels in Düzce during the 2021-2022 academic year. The research data was analyzed using content analysis and interpretive phenomenology. The study focused on the participation in classroom practices and developmental conditions of children with broken families, disabled, developmental delays, forced to work outside of school, poor and deprived children who are at a disadvantage in the classroom environment. According to the findings of the study, disadvantaged students could not adapt to the classroom and school because of the inadequacy of the cumulative capital volume they inherited from their families, they displayed disruptive and unruly behaviors, they could not actively participate in learning-teaching activities, and their development processes were negative and slow compared to their peers in all areas of development, particularly academic and personality development. It has also been discovered that teachers struggle to deal with inequalities in the classroom.
