The evaluation of the digital literacy proficiency of the students of the faculty of education in terms of various variables

The aim of this study is to investigate the digital reading competencies of prospective teachers who study at the faculties of education in terms of various variables. Digital reading competencies of prospective teachers were investigated in terms of such variables as gender, department, class level, age, geographic region where they live permanently, number of children in the family, number of digital tools owned, economic status of the family, education level of the mother, education level of the father, daily screening time. Digital reading is an important part of today's reading culture. Therefore, researching the subject is very valuable. The fact that this study is conducted with prospective teachers is also valuable in terms of analyzing the competencies of individuals who will raise the next generations. The use of technological tools that increase their importance along with the pandemic process and determining the competence of prospective teachers also increase the importance of the subject. The research was carried out with 1979 prospective teachers studying at Dokuz Eylul University Buca Education Faculty. Digital Reading Self-Efficacy Scale was used as a data collection tool. The scale was developed by the researcher and Akkaya N. The developed scale was applied by the researcher in the academic year 2019-2020. Kruskal-Wallis H test and Mann Whitney U tests were used to obtain the results of the research. When the results of the study are analyzed, it is seen that there is a significant difference in the variables of gender, department, class level, age, geographic region where they live permanently, number of children in the family, number of digital tools owned, economic status of the family, education level of the mother, education level of the father, daily screening time. It was concluded that these variables were effective on the self-efficacy levels of prospective teachers. No significant difference was found in the results related to the age variable.
