Analyzing the relation between students' interestin art and their style for handling stress infaculty of education

In this research it is aimed to measure the styles for handling stress of the students in Faculty of Education and their interest in arts; and toanalyzetherelationbetweentheirinterest in arts and their styles for handling stress and if the relation between their interest in arts and their styles for handling stress varies related to some variables like which major they study or in which department they study. Sample of thisresearch consists of 532 students who studies in the Faculty of Education of Erzincan Binali Yıldırım University and they are from nine departmens and two majors including Department of Pre-school Education, Department of Class Education, Department of Social Studies Education, Department of Turkish Education, Department of Psychological Counseling and Guidance Education, Department of Science Studies Education, Department of Mathematics Education, Department of Art Education, Department of Musical Education, Major of Computer and Instructional Technologies Education and Major of Physical Training and Sports. Purposive sampling is used to choose the sample. This research is implemented during the school year of 2018-2019. Inthisresearch, "CorrelationalSurvey Model" -one of thequantitativeresearchmethods- is used. Scale of Interest in Arts (Taşkesen, 2014), Scale of Styles for Handling Stress (Şahin ve Durak, 1995) is used to collect the data of the research. SPSS 22 was used for analyses of the data in the research. Research findings, were tested at 0.5 significance level. At first, Shapiro-Wilk Normality test is applied to examine whether the data of the research distributes normally or not. Cronbach Alpha Coefficient is calculated to measure the safety and the validity of the scales of interest in arts and styles for handling stress. Pearson Correlation test was applied to examine the relation between interest in arts and styles for handling stress, and independent samples t-test was applied to examine the difference between interest in arts and styles for handling stress related to gender. Inthisresearch, it is found that the interest in arts for the students of Faculty of Education is significantly high in the Department of Fine Arts Education, Art Education and Musical Education, also that level of interest in arts of girls is significantly higher compared to boys. It was founda that level of handling stress of the students studying Art Education, Musical Education in the Department of Fine Arts Education is significantly high and it is also found that the relation of methods and points between interest in arts and styles for handling stress for the students in Faculty of Education is mediumlevelpositiveandsignificant. It has beendetermined that these findings show that art affects style for handling stress positively and students in the Department of Art Education and the Department of Musical Education have high level of handling stress. Parallel to this, it is concluded that students who have high art interest have developed a safe approach and optimistic approach in cases where they areexposedtostress.
