Abstract (EN)

In this study, the starting point of the research is to determine the position of education journalism in Turkey and to determine which factors play a role in the process of the existence of education news among other types of news in the media. As important as education is for humanity in terms of fundamental rights and freedoms, education journalism is just as important in its function of conveying developments and information in education. Although developments in education journalism take place day by day, its reflection in the media is conveyed with periodic features and characteristic events. In this thesis study, which was prepared to determine the position of education news, the focus was on the internet editions of Hürriyet, Sabah, and Milliyet, which are 3 of the 5 news portals with the highest visitor traffic in Turkey, which also have a printed version and can be evaluated in the mainstream media according to "similarweb" data, and NOW TV, SHOW TV and TRT Haber, which are 3 of the 5 television channels with the highest ratings according to TİAK's data. In this context, news published between 2020, 2021, 2022 and 2023 were examined. The news in question focused on the category in which they were listed, the language of the educational news, the content, the topics, and the sources of the educational news with these features determined in the light of the basic problem and assumptions of the study, critical discourse analysis was used to analyze the education news.
