Directors in educational movies emotion management

Cinema; By transferring the facts in the society to people, it reflects their experiences, influences and directs the society. At the same time, it can reach more people as a mass communication tool. Being able to manage emotions is self-awareness, being aware of the emotions underlying both one's own and others' behavior and being able to control these emotions. In this research, 50 films with educational content recommended by the Ministry of National Education to educators were watched. The aim of the study is to examine the emotion management skills of film directors and reveal the contribution of these skills on education. 50 films were watched and 5 of them were not included in the study because they were documentaries. 35 of the remaining 45 films were found to be directors. The number of scenes in which the directors took part in the films is indicated in the table. The research is a qualitative research and document analysis method was used. The films were determined by the criterion sampling technique and maximum sampling technique, which one is of the purposeful sampling techniques that will serve the purpose of the research. For this reason, the 3 films in which the emotion management of the managers can be observed and the managers are the most were selected. Attention was paid to the fact that the films were from different years and countries. While examining the emotion management of the characters in question, attention was paid to the character's tone of voice, sentences, body language and facial expressions. The films were interpreted by taking quotes and photographs. Sub-dimensions of emotion management determined by Yaylacı (2006); As a result of the analysis made by looking at self-control, self-awareness, empathy, communication and social skills; In the movie The Hababam Class (Hababam Sınıfı) (1975), it is seen that Mahmut Hoca (teacher Mahmut), who gives importance to the morals of the students rather than their academic success and makes an effort for their emotional development, is a manager who can manage their emotions. Students of Hababam Sınıfı weren't successful before Mahmut Hoca. With the arrival of Mahmut teacher, the students changed and they all graduated successfully. This change is an indicator of how effective the management of emotions on school success. As a result of this change, it is seen that the love of the teachers working at the school for the profession has increased. When we look at the movie Do-ga-ni (Sessizlik), it's understood that the dormitory principal, school principal and administrative supervisor do not have emotion management skills. This situation is understood from the sexual abuse of children, their ignorance of the evil done, and the fact that they do not learn sign language despite being the administrators of the school for the deaf.. When we look at the movie, it is seen how children are unhappy in the school where emotions aren't managed, but when they meet people who value them, they aren't different from others and they feel important. The result of the findings of the movie Leon On Me (Bana Güven) is that the school principal cannot manage his feelings towards those who reduce his school success, but he is successful in managing his feelings towards other students. It is seen that the manager's harsh attitude towards his employees makes his employees unhappy. Despite these happening, the fact that the employees do what the principal wants for the success of the students also shows us that they trust the principal. At the beginning of the movie, the manager, who is unaware of the behaviors that negative emotions create in him, realizes towards the end that his relationship with the employees improves. The unsuccessful school, where there are always fights at the beginning of the movie, its became to opposite school to the end of the movie. When the research results are evaluated, it is seen that emotion management is effective in the organization. For this reason, it is inevitable for managers to have emotion management skills. Based on the results of the research, suggestions such as trainings for emotion management, organizing out-of-school trips where emotions can be expressed comfortably, and making different films or research methods of the research have been developed.
