A systematic review of studies on equal opportunity in education: A comparison of domestic and international studies

In the past, there were a number of class divisions between people such as ethnicity, religion, language and color, but as a result of the changes in the modern world, industrialization, technological developments and especially increase in the value given to human beings, basic concepts such as rights, law, justice, democracy and equality began to gain importance. Accordingly, it was felt that it was obliged to make some radical changes in the field of education, which is vital for the development of a country. One of the most important factors in education, which is considered among these important changes, is the concept of equal opportunity in education. Equal opportunity in education, equal provision of resources and opportunities to all individuals, equality in education by revealing the existing potentials of individuals. The aim of this research is to systematically examine the researches carried out at home and abroad on equal opportunities in education. In this research, the concepts of education, justice, equality, equality and equal opportunity in education were scanned through Google Academic, Higher Education Board Thesis Center, Proquest Database and Ulakbim. As a result of the scanning approximately 250 studies at home and abroad on equal opportunities in education, which are thought to contribute to this research, have been examined in depth. As a result of this review, it was decided to conduct a descriptive analysis of the content in the findings of 138 studies, including 78 domestic studies and 60 studies conducted abroad, which are thought to serve the purpose better, and the rest to be used in different parts of this research. In the light of the findings of this research, the most important problems of equal opportunity in education are socioeconomic status, gender inequality and differences between regions. As a result of the research, the similarities and differences of domestic and international research on equal opportunities in education were discussed in the basic and sub-objectives of this research, taking into account the policies in force in the education system, and important recommendations were made to practitioners and researchers in order to achieve equal opportunities in education in light of the findings obtained.
