Parent involvement in education: A review of the literature

This research intended to investigate the studies on parent involvement in education conducted between the years 2000-2018. In line with this purpose, 144 studies including articles, master's theses and doctoral theses applied on parent involvement between 2000-2018 were examined. To obtain these documents, a literature review on the related field was carried out by use of websites such as National Thesis Center, Google Scholar, Ulakbim and Dergipark. These studies were examined elaborately in terms of some sub-problems which are the city where the researches were conducted, the year when the studies were carried out, grade of participants, type of research, research method, research design and data collection tools. The qualitative research design was used for this study so as to obtain reliable data. A qualitative research design, the literature review method was used to analyze the data concluded from the studies on parent involvement in education through the descriptive analysis method. The data from 144 studies were analyzed, explained and interpreted in a clear and systematical procedure. The results were represented impartially and revealed some information having high truth value. Starting from the family, education proceeds in school and family is complementary to school. When the cooperation between family and school is maintained, students can feel more self-confident and enhance their academic achievement. The result of the study, which is about parent participation in study, it was seen that there are more quantitative studies and scanning pattern was used. Moreover these studies are concentrated in pre-school education. Studies were mostly conducted in Western provinces and written as an article
