Ecological city theory-Ankara example

With the establishment of the Republic and the election of Ankara as the capital, steps were taken in the context of the urbanization process in Turkey. Between 1923 and 1930, Lörcher and Jansen city plans tried to turn the city of Ankara into a planned city. After the 1950s, the intense migration from the village to the city reached a figure much higher than the estimated population in the city plans, and the city plans lost their functionality. Intensive migration from the village to the city has led to questions such as squatting, unplanned urbanization, traffic and infrastructure problems. Park, Burgess, McKenzie examined black immigration concentrated in Chicago. Black immigration in the 1920s caused physical, architectural, social, economic and cultural changes in Chicago. These changes in the city of Chicago were examined by Park, Burgess, Mckenzie. As a result of the examinations and determinations made, the Ecological City Theory has emerged. In the academic study, the Ecological City Theory and the historical, spatial and sociological change of Ankara, especially after 1923, were examined. As a result of these investigations, the black migration in Chicago and the migration from rural to urban to Ankara after the 1950s were compared. It has been observed that the two migration movements cause similar spatial, social, economic, physical and cultural results in both Chicago and Ankara. As a result of these determinations, the urban development of Ankara was examined in the context of Ecological City Theory. The aim of the thesis The purpose of this thesis is explaining the urbanization process of Ankara with the doctrine of Ecological City Theory. The black migration to Chicago in the 1920s caused spatial, architectural, economic, social and cultural changes in Chicago. After the 1950s, the intense immigration wave in Ankara and the processes of change in the city of Chicago were examined and similarities and differences were revealed.
