The opinion of the academicians and students about the role, importance and usage the meseum and the historical places at the skilled trade training program

ABSTRACT In this research, it is tried to define the options of the academicians giving lectures in Department of Skilled Trade and the students studying at the same department about the role, importance and usage of the museum and the historical places at the Skilled Trade Training Program. This research has been made in the period of 2003/2004 with taking views of 128 persons of composed of the 17 of 30 academicians giving lectures in Department of Skilled Trade of Professional Training Faculty in Gazi University and 11 1 of the 220 students studying fourth class in the same department. The two parallel questionnaires used in the study are prepared by the researcher in order to define the options of the academicians and students about the role, importance and usage of the museum and the historical places. The questionnaire was arranged as four sections: personal information, the role and importance of the museum and historical places in Skilled Trade Training Program, planning and the applying of visitation to museum and historical places, efficient usage of museum and historical places or not. The summary results of the research are arranged as follows; 1. First Problem: The role and importance of the museum and historical places at the Skilled Trade Training Program. a) The students are opinion of the museum and historical places have a big role and importance in the period of their education. They think that there is no reason not to go and visit these places. But, they think they are not well-informed and adequate enough about museum and historical places. They state their academicians don't inform enough and encourage them and not use observation techniques in their lectures.VI b) The academicians are opinion as students that the museum and historical places have a big role and importance in the period of education. They think that museum and historical places will supply the deficiency of professional training materials in faculty. Also they state that these places contribute to the students' professional training. But they think the students are not well-informed and they don't inform the students enough and not use observation techniques in their lectures. They state that the reasons for these negativities are neither lack of time and money nor intensity of theoretical lectures. 2. Second Problem: The planning and applying of visitation to museum and historical places. a) Although the students think arrangement of visitation to museum and historical places effect their education positively, the academicians and faculty are not adequate in the period of planning and applying of visitation. But also they think there are few academicians from the other department or class who try to organize visitation by themselves not depend on the faculty's politics. b) Academicians are of the opinion that these places contribute to the students' education but contrary to the students they think the faculties arrange the visitation even not enough and support the academicians about these arrangements. But they share the opinion that the visitation plans and programs and details are declared to die students and these arrangements are well-planned and organized according to its aim, application and result and they also think observation materials are used and notes are taken and these notes are reported after visitation. 3. Third Problem: Whether museum and historical places are used efficient or not in Skilled Trade Program. a) The students think that declaring the aim of the visitation, being determined the subject of observation, taking notes systematic and reporting notes increase the efficiency together with contribution to the professional education, cooperation in groupvıı and duty. But they share the opinion that they are not weli-informed before the visitation, subject of observation is not determined by academicians, and they are not informed what they do during visitation, the academicians are not sufficient to guide and they don't use suitable observation materials. b) Although academicians think that declaring aim of the visitation to students increase the efficiency of visitation, contrary to students they state they determine the subject of observation and give advance information before visitation and inform students what they do during visitation. Because they are opinion of that successful and efficient visitation contribute to student's professional education, cooperation in group and duty. Furthermore they share the opinion of they guide students during visitation, get the students to take notes and get them to use observation materials and then get them to report results.
