Clinic and subclinic incidence and isolation, antibiotic sensitivity of the microorganisms caused mastitis in dairy cows in Elazığ district

57 7. SUMMARY In this study, we have investigated distribution of mastitis in Elazığ and surrounding region, microorganisms causing mastitis and susceptibility of these microorganisms to different antibiotics. A total of 1249 cows (396 Brown-Swiss, 338 Holstein, 31 SimentaL, 355 hybrid, 6 Jersey and 123 local strain) aged between 2-16 and owned by the people in Elazığ served as subjects. Presence of mastitis was determined by clinical examination and CMT. Five ml milk sample was collected into sterile glass tubes from mastitis infected udder lobes of the CMT positive cows. These milk samples were transferred to the Microbiology Department laboratory of F.U. Faculty of Veterinary Medicine within two hours for microbiological examination. After the examination of the animals, information about the age, number of parturition, date of parturition, non-lactating period in the last lactation, daily amount of milk, application of any hygienic procedure before and after milking and type of milking was taken from the farmers for mastitis positive and control cows. In addition, information on the number of animals in the same stall, area per animal, density of flies in the stall, ventilation, hygiene and lightening conditions was also recorded. Daily data on rainfall, temperature and humidity were obtained from the Elazığ Department of Meteorology on the dates when the animals were examined. Then, these data were compared with the microbiological and antibiogram results. In conclusion, it was found that previewence of mastitis in cows living Elazığ and surrounding region was 60.53% of this, 55.17% and 5.36% were recorded as subclinical and clinical mastitis, respectively. When findings from the udder lobes were reviewuated, it was seen that previewence of mastitis was 30.96%. Subclinical and clinical mastitis were 29.32% and 1.64%, respectively. In the CMT positive cows, microbiological proliferation percentages were 58.86% and 47.78% in milk and udder lobe samples, respectively. It was determined that the most proliferated microorganism in milk samples of CMT positive and clinically diagnosed mastitis cows was Staph, aureus which was most sensitive to sefalosporin.
