Evaluation of the job satisfaction of nurses in Elaziğ Firat Tip Merkezi, Elaziğ Government Hospital, Elaziğ SSK Hospital and Elaziğ central dispensaries

EVALUATİON OF THE JOB SATİSFACTİON OF NURSES İN ELAZIĞFİRAT TİP MERKEZİ, ELAZIĞ GOVERNMENT HOSPİTAL, ELAZIĞ SSKHOSPİTAL AND ELAZIĞ CENTRAL DİSPENSARİESDİLEK GÜNEŞ DAĞ2. ABSTRACTIn this survey which was performed for evaluation of the level of jobsatisfaction of nurses who have been working at central health centres of TheFırat Tıp Merkezi Public Hospital in Elazığ Province, and studying on thefactors influencing the work satisfaction of them, 531 nurses out of 600 havebeen reached. An information paper that reflects general demographiccharacteristics, a questionnaire that demonstrates work conditions and theMinnesota Satisfaction Questionnaire to measure job satisfaction were appliedto the included nurses.Average age of the studied nurses is 28.78 ± 5.07 and 38.6% out ofthem are serving at the Fırat Tıp Merkezi (Firat Medical Centre). 80.4% areservice nurses, 6.2% are the responsible of a service. 57.2% out of them havegraduated from a vocational college (Associate's Degree). 55.6% are marriedand 84.2% are with children. 94.9 are at a medium socio-economic level.Average working period is 84.00 months and 35.6% out of them work for 1-5years. 77.4% of the nurses stand guard and average weekly work hours is44.78± 6.60. Average number of daily patients under their care is 20.00.75.7% is permanent staff. The ratio of the nurses who are contemplatingleaving the job is 17.7%. 64.3% of these nurses are not getting vocational in-service trainings. 65.5% have willingly chosen this profession. In addition,40.1% out of these nurses smoke.Average job satisfaction point of the studied nurses is 49.43 ± 11.27. Ithas been found that 55.4% have low satisfaction ratio (between 0-49) and34.5% have high satisfaction ratio (between 70-89). The average ratio of thejob-leaving idea of the nurses working at Fırat Tıp Merkezi has been foundhigher than that of working at another institution (p=0.0001). Average point ofjob satisfaction of the nurses working at health centres is 55.47 ± 11.37 andthis figure has been found higher than that of the nurses working at otherinstitutions (p=0.0001).Average point of job satisfaction of executive nurses and of the servicenurses are determined as 60.67 ± 03.06 and 47.67 ± 10.59 respectively.(p=0.0001). Average point of job satisfaction of the ones who don'tcontemplate to leave their jobs is 52.57 ± 11.41 while of the ones who thinkabout the job-leaving is 48.43 ± 10.40 (p=0.0001).Consequently, job satisfaction degree of the studied nurses has beenfound ?low?. To increase the job satisfaction, training programs should bearranged for employees of this field and work conditions should be meliorated.Key words: Job satisfaction,Influential factors, nursery.4
