Elmalılı Muhammed Hamdi Yazır'ın düşüncesinde hakk kavramı

In times of post-truth, theories of truth alone do not provide a foundation of a consistent and everlasting truth, thus truth from a religious perspective provide an understanding of the Absolute Truth. What a Muslim perspective in addition provides is the notion of prophethood as the safe connection to the T/truth. Since the intellectual/philosophical aspect of the Ottomans has been predominantly disregarded so far, this work aims to examine the concept of truth from the perspective of the late Ottoman scholar Elmalılı Muhammed Hamdi Yazır. With the utilization of textual analysis of Elmalılı's works such as his Qur'ān commentary, Hak Dini Kur'an Dili and his preface to Metâlib ve Mezâhib, Elmalılı's opinions are given structurally on "what is T/truth?", his ontology and his epistemology. In view of the fact that truth (ḥaqq) in literal terms means being/existence and correspondence, the concept of truth in Elmalılı's perspective is analysed in relation to his ontology as well as his epistemology. Ontologically, Elmalılı divides all being in to Necessary Being in Itself (Wājib al-Wujūd liẕatihī) and necessary beings due to another being (Wājib al-Wujūd lighayrihī). Thus, all beings other than the Necessary Being in Itself derive their true existence from the Necessary Being in Itself. The seen beings are signs/testimonies for the unseen beings and mostly God that can be deduce by means of causality. Epistemologically, truth is the correspondence between the mind and the external world. This correspondence is only created by God without the human having any role in it. The same applies to prophets when they receive revelation. The revelation is created in their hearts/minds as certain and objective knowledge which is the source for the ethical truth. These findings demonstrate a fundamental metaphysical foundation for epistemological as well as ethical truth. Keywords: T/truth, Elmalılı Muhammed Hamdi Yazır, Being, Knowledge
