Adjustment problems to social life after retirement

Retirement, which has an individual and social aspect, is a phase of life in which the individual withdraws from working life and where changes occur in social role and status. With the increase in the general population and the elderly population, there has been an increase in the number of retirees. In addition, as a result of the increase in average life expectancy and the time spent in retirement, the retirement period has become the center of attention both politically and academically. The importance of the economic, physical, psychological and social consequences of retirement and their effects on the lives of individuals is increasing. The main purpose of this study is to determine the results of retirement, and to reveal the individual differences in the retirement adjustment process and the main problems encountered in this process, depending on these results. In this respect, a comparison of employees and retirees has been made based on the level of resources acquired. Retirement results and retirement adjustment are evaluated based on the data obtained in the literature review, reports of public and private institutions and organizations, Statistical Yearbooks of the Social Security Institution, microdata with national representation capability obtained from Turkey Statistical Institute. According to the results obtained in the research; it has been determined that each resource in retirement takes place at different levels and differentiates adjustment to retirement life. It has also been observed that the responses to the level of a resource are important in terms of retirement adjustment. When resources are evaluated together, their effects cause different results, so the level of a single resource is not sufficient for understanding retirement adjustment. Finally, the effects of being at low resource levels in retirement compared to working life are less negative.
