Abstract (EN)
The investigation area covers the eastern section of Emet Basin and the northwestern part of Çavdarhisar Basin. These two Neogene basins are seperated from each other with a high threshold. In the study area the Sarıcasu and Arıkayası formations form the basement rock units. The Neogene Sequence overlying the Paleozoic basement with an angular unconformity begins with the Early Miocene Kürtköyü formation. The Early Miocene sedimentation ends with the Karbasan formation, consisting of lacustrine limestones. The sedimentation continues with the Early-Middle Miocene Kızılyar formation. The alluvial unit indicating the opening of Emet and Çavdarhisar basins, and unconformably overlies the older units. The Kızılyar formation is transitionally overlain by the Hisarcık formation represented by the lacustrine clastic sediments. Hisarcık formation could not be observed in the study area in Emet Basin. The Emet formation mainly containing chert bearing limestones, has extensive distributions in both basins. This unit not only overlies the Hisarcık formation with a vertical transition, but also overlies the Kızılyar formation on both sides of the threshold, with a lateral transition. The Neogene sequence ceases with the Late Miocene Merkezşıhlar formation. The youngest unit in the study area is the Quaternary alluvial deposits.Key Words: Neogene, stratigraphy, correlation, Emet-Çavdarhisar
