Özet (EN)

The research was conducted as a randomized controlled intervention study to determine the effect of the Management Model of Breastfeeding Problems (MMBP) on breastfeeding motivation, breastfeeding success, and breastfeeding problems. The research was carried out in the delivery rooms and obstetrics clinics of a training and research hospital in Adana between the dates of June 2020 and April 2022. A total of 50 women, 25 of them were allocated to the intervention group, and 25 of them were allocated to the control group, were included in the study. The 'Personal Information Form', 'Breastfeeding Experience Scale (BES)', 'LATCH Breastfeeding Assessment Tool', and 'Breastfeeding Motivation Scale (BMS) (For Primiparous Mothers)' were used to collect data. Descriptive statistics, independent samples t-test, repeated measurement test, Mann-Whitney U, Wilcoxon, and Friedman tests were used to analyze the data. It was determined that the LATCH post-test mean score was 9.72±0.54 in the intervention group, and 8.60±1.25 in the control group, and the difference between the groups was statistically significant (p<0.05). Moreover, it was determined that the BES total mean score of the intervention group in was 30.32±6.06 in the 1st week, 27.28±7.17 in the 2nd week, 24.20±4.84 in the 6th week, 21.64±4.49 in the 8th week. It was determined that the BES total mean score of the control group was 41.88±8.91 in the 1st week, 41.88±9.03 in the 2nd week, 35.72±9.16 in the 6th week, 32.28±7.88 in the 8th week. A statistically significant difference was found in terms of the BES total mean scores between the groups in all postpartum weeks (p<0.05). Women's integrated regulation, intrinsic motivation and identified regulation, introjected regulation-social approval, introjected regulation-social pressure, and external regulation–additional benefits subscales' total mean scores were determined as 3,90±0,13, 3,98±0,10, 3,82±0,47, 2,32±0,93, and 3,64±0,47 in the intervention group, respectively. Additionally, these subscales' total mean scores were calculated as 3,62±0,38, 3,60±0,50, 3,64±0,51, 2,62±0,92, and 2,92±0,61 in the control group, respectively. According to the groups, statistically significant differences were found between the total mean scores of all other subscales, except for the introjected regulation-social approval and introjected regulation-social pressure subscales' total mean scores (p<0.05). In the study, it was found that the MMBP reduced and relieved breastfeeding problems, and it increased the motivation and success of breastfeeding among women.
