Abstract (EN)
Objective: This study aimed to identify pathogenic microorganisms isolated from vaginal discharge samples of dairy cows with endometritis and to determine their antibiotic resistance profiles in the Western Aegean provinces (Aydın, Denizli, Muğla). Material and Methods: The study was conducted with vaginal discharge samples collected from a total of 150 cows suspected of having endometritis from various farms in Aydın, Denizli, and Muğla (50 cows from each province). Bacteria isolated from the samples were identified using MALDI-TOF MS, and antibiotic susceptibility tests were performed using the Kirby-Bauer disk diffusion method. Results: From the 50 samples collected in Aydın, 45 isolates were obtained; from the 50 samples in Denizli, 43 isolates were obtained; and from the 50 samples in Muğla, 32 isolates were obtained. Seventeen different bacterial species were identified using MALDI-TOF MS. The most frequently identified bacterial agents were Trueperella pyogenes (27%), Streptococcus pluranimalium (18%), and Escherichia coli (13%). Antibiotic susceptibility tests revealed that all isolates of Trueperella pyogenes and Escherichia coli were resistant to amoxicillin-clavulanic acid, ampicillin, and penicillin G. Conclusion: The study concluded that T. pyogenes and E. coli were the most commonly isolated agents in endometritis cases, similar to findings in many other studies. Considering the resistance profiles of the isolates, it was determined that bacterial diagnosis and antibiotic susceptibility testing of identified agents are necessary for endometritis cases.
