Özet (EN)
ABSTRACT The Effect of Endosulfan on Blood, Liver and Breast Tissues of Mus musculus In recent years in Turkey, especially in Çukurova Region, it has been suggested that there would be a relation between the increased insidence of breast cancer and widely use of endosulfan. For this purpose, the hematological, biochemical and histopathological effects of endosulfan on blood, liver, and breast tissues of mature Mus musculus are investigated. Sixty mature (30 control, 30 experimental) M. musculus, weighing between 23 and 40 g, were obtained from the Medical Experimental Surgery Research Center (MESRC) of Çukurova University. In the first part of our study, the reference ranges of malondialdehyde (MDA) levels, lactic dehydrogenase (LDH) activities, antioxidant systems and hematological parameters are established to interpret the effects of pesticides on these tissues. In the second part, the effects of oral administration of endosulfan (0.24 mg Per 100 g body weight) daily for 90 days (short term) and for 180 days (long term) are investigated. As a results, no effect on body and breast weights whereas leucocytosis, and anemia as well as a increase on liver weight and hepato/somato index are observed in neither short nor long terms. Although the antioxidant systems of erythrocyte and liver tissue, LDH activities and MDA levels were affected by endosulfan; breast tissue levels showed no significant changes. In the histopathological investigation of the liver tissues, the findings of severely damaged tissue in the short term and mild to moderate regeneration signs are observed in the long term. Infiltration to stroma is observed in the histopathogical investigation of breast tissues in both short and long terms. In conclusion, non-carcinogenic effects on blood, liver and breast tissues, reversible tissue damage in the short term and an adaptation to long term toxicity are observed. Key words: Blood, breast tissue, endosulfan, liver, mature Mus musculus XVlll
