In the perspective of industrial design history solid fuel portable stoves used in Türkiye and comfort relationship

In this thesis, the use of solid fuel portable stoves, which became accessible to more and more people as a result of mass production in Europe and America with the Industrial Revolution, and which rapidly became widespread, is examined in the specific case of Turkey, and it is tried to reveal when, how, in what way and to what extent the comfort provided by the stove to users in Turkey was realized. In the research, it is aimed to determine the importance and value of the stove, which can directly or indirectly appeal to the five senses of human beings at the same time, in human life in Turkey. It is thought that learning the experiences with stoves, knowing how stoves have been used from past to present and what they have contributed to, will guide future heating plans and product and space designs to be made in this field. The arrival of the solid fuel stove in Turkey in the first half of the 19th century and the comfort it provided with its introduction have been observed in parallel with advances in industry and technology, transforming lifestyles, changing living spaces, socio-economic structure and socio-cultural trends. In the light of the data obtained, it has been seen that the stove is not only used to provide thermal comfort, but also evaluated from different aspects and thus, combined-integrated comfort is obtained from solid fuel portable stoves. The stove, which contains all the components that make the object exist, has the potential to be handled as a separate subject of research, examination and development in each field it is related to. In this wide range, the scope of the thesis is limited to the aspects of the stove that provide comfort to life. During the research, palaces, public buildings, military buildings, mansions, pavilions, city, village and town houses where stoves were used were examined. Following the topics covered by giving examples, the thesis is concluded in the last chapter by discussing the contribution that quality, safe, accessible, sustainable, human and environmentally friendly stove design will provide to increase holistic comfort today and in the future, and the criteria that can be recommended and building blocks in this direction.
