ABSTRACT Master Thesis INVESTIGATION OF THE EFFECT OF THE ENERGY DISSIPATION AT THE STİLLİNG BASİN FOR DIFFERENT TYPED AN ENERGY DISSIPATION Nurettin Volkan ÇAKMAK Fırat University Graduate School Of Natural and Applied Sciences Department of Civil Engineering 2005, Page: 84 The overflow of water from dams is extremely important especially for earthfill dams. For this purpose spillways are built to transfer the excessive water to downstream The huge energy of flow at the end of the spillway which is caused by the difference in height should be decreased. So, energy dissipator structures which leads to hydraulic jumps and turbulance formation are used to reduce the energy of flow. 8 different types of energy dissipator blocks to perform and threshold functions are considered in this study. Placement as one block and strike of flow to upstream and downstream by passing through are common features of these energy dissipators. So turbulance formation is to be increased by collision of water with water besides hydraulic jumps. Energy dissipator structures are designed by using small amounts of flow of mountain streams. The impact of the height of structure and the width of water at the exit on reducing the energy is also studied. According to collected data the best type for energy reduction is type 1, the width of flow at the exit is 1/3 bw and the height of the dissipator is hi.
