Abstract (EN)

This thesis investigates the structural dynamics and strategic significance of energy trade between Turkey and selected energy-rich Islamic countries. Focusing particularly on fossil fuels such as oil, natural gas, and coal, the study examines these trade relations not only in economic terms but also through political, environmental, and diplomatic dimensions. Countries such as Iran, Algeria, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Iraq, and Azerbaijan were selected as case studies. Using the Pointwise Mutual Information (PMI) method, the research analyzes the mutual preference levels and dependency structures in Turkey's energy imports from these nations. The findings reveal that Turkey's energy relations with Islamic countries are shaped not solely by geographical proximity, but also by political compatibility, infrastructural integration, and historical trade patterns. Furthermore, the study incorporates environmental aspects of energy trade, including embodied carbon emissions, emphasizing the need for sustainable energy policies. The thesis concludes that future energy diplomacy must adopt a multi-actor approach, with strong consideration of environmental responsibility and long-term strategic partnerships. Ultimately, the research highlights that the energy cooperation between Turkey and selected Islamic countries has the potential to deepen not only in terms of trade but also in contributing to regional security and sustainable development.
