Özet (EN)

The epics reflecting the events which are important and representing the cultural spirit of the nations have been substantially significant with respect to their representation of socio-economic structure and the identity of the Turkish Nation. This study aims at benefitting from the suggested treasures.The study consists of four chapters. The introduction part indicates that why and how this topic is studied. The first chapter is devoted to various definitions of social norms taken from various written sources and then the formation, classification, characteristics and motives of the epics have been introduced and analyzed. Next, myths, legends and folk stories are described and the similarities and differences among them are drawn. In the second chapter, the information received from written sources about the birth transition period is compiled and classified, and the related findings from the investigated legends are put into the relevant places, if any. In the third chapter, the information received from written sources about the marriage transition period is compiled and classified, and the related findings from the investigated epics are put into the relevant places, if any. Then, in the fourth chapter, the information received from written sources about the death transition period is compiled and classified and the related findings from the investigated legends are put into the relevant places, if any.The study concludes with an overall evaluation of birth, marriage and death periods, which are the three significant transition periods in humans? lives and a bibliography section.
