A review of the relationship episteme and justice

In this study, which will be analyzed the relationship between episteme and justice, we will discuss on the tension of justice with the idea of epistemic certainty as a concept that justifies our judgements and actions. We will focus on classical and contemporary ideas and thinkers in which the tension between justice and episteme is articulated explicitly or implicitly under different forms. In this context, our study will try to comprehend on how the idea of justice is evaluated in terms of epistemology, the concerns of such an idea of justice, and what kind of opportunities it holds. It differs from the political and legal importance of the concept of justice in terms of addressing the issue from the epistemic perspective. With the idea of epistemic certainty of modern thought, an important turning point has been experienced in the history of thought. For, although the idea of rational being and truth is possible in terms of classical thought, an idea of good and justice beyond existence and knowledge overshadows the idea of certainty. Contemporary philosophy, which positions itself in opposition to modern thought, is skeptical of the claims of absolute knowledge and truth. It is obvious that such an idea of certainty also legitimizes an epistemic, ethical and political violence over differences. In this context, contemporary thinkers such as Levinas, Derrida, and Lyotard express their conceptions of justice with an ethical relationship with the other, a deconstructivist way of reading, and a state of suspicion against meta-narratives, against the idea of certainty. Based on this, our study will try to deal with the tension between episteme and justice and will try to show what kind of opportunities such an ideal of justice has in terms of epistemological, ethical-political and legal understanding of thinking justice beyond the boundaries of episteme.
