Investigation of resilience in adolescents by exposure to cyber bully

The aim of this study is to investigate the resilience of adolescents' gender, mother education level, father education level, class level, high school type they involve and the time spent on social media according to their exposure to cyber bullying. The type of research comparison is a descriptive study in relational survey model. The study group of the study consisted of 1040 students selected from the 9th, 10th, 11th and 12th grades of 14-19 age group attending the Official High Schools located in Şahinbey and Şehitkamil districts of Gaziantep province in 2017-2018 academic year. Data related to students' resilience were collected with 'Adolescent Psychological Endurance Scale developed by Bulut, Doğan and Altundağ (2012), and data on whether or not they were exposed to cyber bullying were collected with Cyber Victimization Scale developed by Arıcak, Kınay and Tanrıkulu (2012). Data on socio-demographic characteristics were obtained by using the 'Personal Information Form prepared within the scope of the research. Two-factor ANOVA technique was used in the analysis of the data. Findings related to resilience; The resilience of adolescents not exposed to cyber bullying was higher than adolescents exposed to cyber bullying. In terms of gender, resilience of female students was higher than male students. The resilience of adolescents who had 1 hour or less time compared to the time spent on social media was higher than adolescents who had 2 hours, 3 hours and 4 hours and more. In addition, the resilience of adolescents who spent 2 hours was higher than adolescents who spent 3 hours. When the effects of cyber bullying and gender, grade level, father education level, type of high school and time spent on social media were examined, no significant difference was observed in resilience of adolescents. However, there was a significant difference in adolescents' resilience according to the common effect of cyberbullying exposure and mother education level. The results of the research were discussed and interpreted in the light of the studies in the literature. Based on the findings of the research, suggestions were made to families, psychological counselors, teachers and researchers.
