Family functions in predicting social and emotional loneliness among adolescents

Abstract (EN)
The main purpose of this study is to examine family functions as predictors of social and emotional loneliness in adolescents. The sample of the study consist of 504 high school students (235 female, 269 male) selected from Adıyaman High School and Adıyaman Fevzi Çakmak High School, Adıyaman Erdemir High School and Adıyaman Rekabet Kurumu High School at 2007-2008 school year. The participants? mean is 16.70 (Ss=.78). In pursuing this study goal, ?Social and Emotional Loneliness Inventory? (SELSA-S) and ?Familiy Assessment Device? (FAD) were administered to 504 high school students. Data obtained have been analysed statistically by using SPSS Windows Packet Programme. Pearson product moment correlations analys have been carried out on these data. The level of significance was selected as p<.05.As a result of this study, the main predictors of the family subscale of emotional loneliness on adolescents are general functions, affective responsiveness and problem solving subscales; the predictors of romantic loneliness subscale is only general functions and the predictors of the social loneliness subscale of social loneliness are general functions and affective ınvolvement. The other scales of the family functions (communication, rolles and behavior control) are not significant correlation to prediction of the social and emotional loneliness.Key Words: Adolescent, Social and Emotional Loneliness.
