Analysis on the relationship of despair and submissive behaviors in adolescents

This research has been done to investigate the correlation between the level of despair and submissive acts of pubescent highschool students. In the research, Beck Despair Scale, Submissive Acts Scale and a personal information form, which has been prepared by the researcher, have been used to collect the data. Personal information form contains questions about the students' gender, grade level, percieved socio-economic level and percieved parents' behaviour The research has been done by using relationally scanning model. The participants have been chosen from different highschools in Sultangazi and in Şişli, located in İstanbul. 174 girls and 134 boys, totally 308 students have participated in this research. Data have been analyzed by SPSS 22.0 statistical package programme. During the analysis, t test, ANOVA, Bonferoni Analysis which is one of the Post-Hoc tests, and Pearson's Correlation Coefficient Product have been used. According to research results, there is a positive and meaningful correlation between students' despair levels and their submissive acts. As students' despair level increase, their submissive behaviours increase, too. Based on percieved parents' acts, students' despair levels differentiate in a statistically meaningful way but on the other hand there is no change observed, as the gender, grade level and percieved socio-economic levels differentiate. Students' submissive acts may be seen in different ways according to their gender, although they don't change according to their class level, percieved socio-economic level and percieved parents' acts.
