Adolescents' level of avertiveness, shiness and loneliness

This research aims to determine the level of avertiseness, shiness and loneliness of adolescents aged 13-17 years and examine in terms of somevariables. Three hundred and fifty-two adolescents aged between 13 and 17 years who live in Istanbul participated in the study. One hundred and ninety-four of the participants were female and 158 of them were male. In the study, Personal Information Form, UCLA Loneliness Scale and Rathus Assertiveness Inventory were used as a data collection tool. Data of the study was analysed by using SPSS version 21.0 statistical program. Independent t-test was used to determine adolescents' level of avertiveness, shiness and loneliness. Average scores of the individuals were examined to determine the level of avertiseness, shiness and loneliness. The results of the study indicated that loneliness scores were in the middle-level; avertiseness scores were above the middle-level; shiness scores were below the middle-level. Study also indicated that there was no significant difference between gender and loneliness level. Males' avertiveness level was higher than females', statistically significance level; whereas females' shiness level was higher than males'. One-direction Variance Analysis (ANOVA) was made to determine if there was a statistically significant difference between socioeconomic level and adolescents' level of avertiseness, loneliness and shiness. Study indicated that there was no statistically significant difference between adolescents' level of shiness and socioeconomic level. Also, there was statistically significant difference between high and middle socioeconomic level with regards to level of avertiseness; however there was no significant difference between level of avertiseness and low socioeconomic level. Moreover, there was statistically significant difference between low and middle socioeconomic level with regards to level of loneliness; however there was no significant difference between level of loneliness and high socioeconomic level.
