Forensic medical evaluation of sexual assault against adult male

Sexual assault is a medical, legal and social problem that concerns the victim, his/her environment and the society. It leaves heavy and permanent damage to the person. These cases, which are frequently encountered in forensic medicine practice, require multidisciplinary process management in terms of medical and legal aspects. The study aims to better understand sociodemographic characteristics and to reveal the risk factors. Revealing these features will contribute to the prevention of crime and the rehabilitation process of the person. In the study, all sexual crime cases evaluated by Eskişehir Osmangazi University Faculty of Medicine, Department of Forensic Medicine during the 10-year period between 2010-2019 were retrospectively analyzed. Data analysis was done with SPSS package program. Age, marital status, education level, scene of the crime, nature and stage of the attack, proximity between the victim and the accused, the victim's nationality, and forensic examination findings were evaluated. A total of 983 sexual assault cases were evaluated in our department over a 10-year period. It was determined that 107 (10.9%) of the sexual assault cases who applied were men and in 45 cases (4.6%) the victims were men older than 18 years of age. It was determined that 92.3% of the foreign nationals were evaluated in the 5-year period between 2015-2019. While uncontrolled immigration brings along many social, legal and medical problems, it also leaves individuals who are illegal immigrants unprotected against crime. It should be aimed to eliminate prejudice and negative behavior patterns related to sexual assault acts. Sexual assault cases should be handled more and the social, medical and judicial aspects of the problem should be examined in more detail.
