The mediating role of perfectionism and intolerance of uncertainity in the relationship between early maladaptive schemas and relationship and partner related obsessive-compulsive symptoms

The aim of the current study is to examine the mediating role of perfectionism and intolerance of uncertainty in the relationship between relationship and partner related obsessive-compulsive symptoms and early maladaptive schema domains. Also, to examine which schema domains predict relationship and partner related obsessive-compulsive symptoms. The sample of the study consists of 290 individuals between the ages of 18-58; who have an ongoing romantic relationship during data collection and do not have any psychological/psychiatric diagnosis. The data was collected through Demographic Information Form, Obsessive-Compulsive Inventory-Revised Form, Relationship Obsessive-Compulsive Inventory, Partner-Related Obsessive-Compulsive Symptom Inventory, Intolerance of Uncertainty Scale, Frost Multidimensional Perfectionism Scale and Young Schema Questionnaire Short Form 3. After the statistical analyses, it was found that there were positive and significant relationships between the main variables in the research. The results of the model analysis examinning the factors related to formation and level of relationship related obsessive-compulsive symptoms showed that, all schema domains predicted increases in relationship related obsessive-compulsive symptoms through the mediation of intolerance of uncertainity. It was seen that other directedness and impaired limits schema domains did not have an direct effect on relationship related obsessive-compulsive symptoms; only impaired autonomy, disconnection and unrelenting standards schema domains had a direct effect on relationship related obsessive-compulsive symptoms.
