The cultural development of Eastern Black Sea region during the Early Bronze Age

Due to its rugged structure and natural surroundings, The Coast of Eastern Black Sea Region (Ordu, Giresun, Trabzon, Rize and Artvin) is one of the less studied geographies of Türkiye in the field of Ancient History and Archaeology, and it is difficult to detect the cultural assets in the region. Based on the historical data of the region, it is possible to say that the inscriptions and the ancient writings majorly came to the Eastern Black Sea region very late. In the period that we studied, the Early Bronze Age (3000-2000 BC), we could not identify any written works which is related with the written history of the region. Therefore, the archaeological findings have a significant place in our research. Our study was started with the cultural properties identified in the Giresun Systematic Surveys, EBA settlements and pottery cultures identified in the archaeological researches carried out in the Eastern Black Sea Region. The border areas constitute the general of our study. In the first part of our study, the geographical features of the Eastern Black Sea Region are examined in terms of geological, physical and historical aspects. In the second chapter, the socio-cultural period of the region until the Bronze Age is analysed in parallel with the historical and geographical approaches. In our third part, the main subject of our study, the settlement areas where the Early Bronze Age cultures of the Eastern Black Sea Region were detected and the archaeological findings (pottery, rock paintings, obelisks) obtained in these areas that are listed in the provinces and Karaz, EBA I, EBA II and EBA III found in the region in accordance with the typological evaluation approach of ceramic cultures. In the third part of our study, 208 settlement areas were located on the map and the archaeological findings were classified on the tables.
