Investigation of personality traits of fencing trainers and referees in the dark triad perspective

Personality characteristics, which are one of the basic building blocks from which a person's behavioral patterns emerge, have recently been observed to have significant effects on many issues with their social dimension. This situation also shows many developments for sports activities. The purpose of this research is to examine the personality characteristics of fencing coaches and referees from the perspective of the dark triad. In this study conducted based on the survey model; The Dark Triad scale, developed by (Jonason and Webster, 2010) and validated in Turkish by (Özsoy et al., 2017), was used. The research group consists of 141 participants who are on the Turkish Fencing Federation 2022 visa coach and referee list. SPSS 25.0 statistical package program was used to evaluate the data and find the calculated values. The data are summarized by giving means and standard deviations. Since the data did not show a normal distribution, the Mann Whitney-U Test was used for pairwise comparisons, while the Kruskal Wallis-H Test was used for multiple comparisons of the data. Dunnett T3 test was used to determine the source of significant differences in the Kruskal Wallis-H test result. As a result of the research; While significant statistical differences were found in the variables of age, marital status, income level, task type and working status in the subscales of the dark triad personality scale; No statistically significant difference was observed in the variables of gender, athletic background, education level, referee license level and coaching level.
