Abstract (EN)

The usage in the field and the effectiveness of visual materials such as videos, photographs, images, and graphics has increased with the introduction of new media. It is possible to say that video, having the capacity of evaluating all kinds of written, visual, and audial elements, has turned into a more effective and common form of communication. The advantages offered by the new media made videos an important part of education process with a plan, purpose and control. Video goes beyond being a merely assisting course material and turns into an effective education material and environment. Video, developed as a means of communication, allows the use of all kinds of written, visual, and audial material. This study systematizes the problem how video can be transformed into an effective course material and environment. In this sense, this study dwells on the process of a qualified video lesson with its recording and design process. The effective video lesson model proposal obtained at the end of the study is important for anyone interested in instructional side of video with educators and communicators being in the first place. Based on visual sociology, the qualities of video are analyzed initially in the study. Then, the usage of video as an instructional material as well as its importance, and the recent practices regarding video usage are dwelt on. In the section dealing with video lesson design that focus on video recording and design processes, it is considered visually, audially, and instructionally. The implementation section of the study analyzed video lessons shared on video sharing sites of top ten universities in the world via document analysis method with purposeful sampling. The selected video lessons are evaluated in visual, audial, and instructional terms via three structured observation form consisting of 145 items. A model proposal is given based on the results for an effective video lesson through the consideration of basic principles of a video lesson.
