Determination of anesthetic effect of eugenol, clove and peppermint oil on narrow clawed freshwater crayfish (Pontastacus leptodactylus Eschscholtz, 1823)

Abstract (EN)

In this thesis, anesthetic effect of clove oil (200, 250, 300, 350, 400, 450 and 500 µl /l), eugenol (100, 150, 200, 250, 300, 350, 400 ve 450 µl/l ) and peppermint oil(200, 300, 400, 500, 600 ve 800 µl/l), in narrow-clawed freshwater crayfish (Pontastacus leptodactylus Eschscholtz, 1823) with 31.47 g mean weight and 10.27 cm total lenght. Research results showed that the ideal doses were determined as 300 µl/l concentration with 12.6 ± 2.45 min anestesia and 9.36 ± 4.63 recovery time for clove oil, 300 µl/l concentration with 21.77 ± 0.77 min anestesia and 8.83 ± 1.22 recovery time for eugenol and 400 µl/l concentration with 55.00 ± 2.89 min anestesia and 6.67 ± 0.88 recovery time for peppermint oil. It was determined that 33.33% of deaths occurred at 350, 400, 450 µl/l doses of clove oil. Despite the induction of anesthesia in 400, 500, 600 and 800 µl/l peppermint oil concentartion, high mortality rate were observed in the individuals used in the experiments. It was observed that the three anesthetic agents used increased the hemolymph glucose level in crayfish. The hemolymph glucose level, which was measured as 1.83 ± 0.33 mg/dL in the control group, varied between 4.5 ± 0.58 and 16.5 ± 1.15 mg/dL in the experimental groups, especially at low doses and in cases where anesthesia was prolonged.
