Abstract (EN)
Post-colonialism is a critical approach that deals with the cultural legacy of colonialism and imperialism. In literature, post-colonialism has emerged as a significant field of study that examines the relationship between colonizer and colonized, the effects of colonization on the colonized people and their cultures, and how post-colonial societies resist and negotiate their subjugation. Post-colonial literary works deal with themes such as identity, cultural hybridity, power relations, and the effects of colonization on language and culture. In this context, post-colonialism has become an important critical approach in literature as it provides a platform for the previously silenced and marginalized voices. Toni Morrison, one of the most important post-colonial writers of the 20th century, was known for her literary exploration of African-American experiences and history. Her works often deal with race, identity, and power issues and are deeply influenced by post-colonial theory. In her works, Morrison critiques the dominant Western narrative that has historically marginalized and oppressed people of color. She challenges the idea of a universal human experience by illuminating African Americans' specific experiences and struggles and highlights how they have been excluded from the dominant narrative. Her works also challenge the idea of a fixed, essentialized identity and instead embrace the fluidity and complexity of individual experiences. Morrison's novel, The Bluest Eye, explores the complex intersections of race, gender, and class and challenges readers to confront American history's uncomfortable truths. Therefore, Morrison's works are a testament to the power of literature to challenge dominant narratives and shed light on marginalized groups' experiences. Therefore, this thesis aims to evaluate Toni Morrison's novel The Bluest Eye in the context of Post-colonialism studies.
