Abstract (EN)

This study focuses on the examination of depression in patients diagnosed with Major ‎Thalassemia and admitted to the Thi-Qar Center for Hereditary Blood Diseases in the Thi-Qar ‎Province of Iraq. Major Thalassemia is a disease characterized by severe anemia. Survival ‎depends on regular blood transfusion with an inevitable iron overload resulting in multiple ‎organ damage due to free radical formation. Due to the fact that the treatment process and ‎the procedures necessary for survival are quite demanding and laborious, the quality of life of ‎the patients is adversely affected by this disease. Quality of life refers to social and economic ‎factors directly related to psychology, such as the patient's social and social relations, ‎professional skills and work life, daily life and motivation.‎ Within the scope of this study, the diagnosis of Major Thalassemia was confirmed in ‎Thi-Qar Hereditary Blood Diseases Center and a total of 89 patients, 40 men and 49 women, ‎who are currently under treatment, were analysed. Data Collection (Questionnaire) Form and ‎Beck Depression Inventory were administered to the patients. Beck Depression Inventory mean score of the Patient Group was found to ‎be 32,8874. This result confirms severe depression in Major Thalassemia Patients.‎ Keywords: Major Thalassemia, Depression, Nursing
