According to marriage books the application of civil code in Çankırı (1926-1950)

The foundation, development and strength of civilizations are tied to family life. The family is seen as the basic building block of society and it is an institution that maintains its importance in every society and continues to increase its prestige for centuries. Marriage contract has been made within the framework of certain rules and principles in every society and this situation has developed over time. In the research, the marriage law in the process starting from the pre-Islamic period until the adoption of the 1917 Law of Family Decree and then the 1926 Turkish Civil Code was emphasized. The Civil Code, which is an important step taken in the family law of the Republican Period, was found to be worthy of attention in the context of its functioning and implementation in Çankırı. According to the marriage registers of Çankırı, the effects of the Civil Code on social, cultural, religious and legal life in this region were examined. The official marriage practices in Çankırı were examined according to the marriage books and determined according to the years, ages and population ratio. The marriages performed before and after the Civil Code were evaluated within this framework.
