Abstract (EN)

The purpose of this research is to examine the relationships between perceived parental relationship attitudes, marriage role expectations, and marriage anxieties of unmarried individuals. In line with the purpose of the research, survey model, one of the quantitative research methods, was used. The study group of the research consisted of a total of 602 unmarried participants, 195 men and 407 women, aged between 18 and 30. Appropriate sampling method was used to determine the study group. Online survey technique was used to collect research data and participation in the survey was voluntary. Personal Information Form, Marriage Anxiety Scale, Marriage Role Expectations Scale, and Perceived Parental Relationship Scale were used as data collection tools in the study. To determine the relationships between variables, T-Test for Independent Groups, One-Way ANOVA Test, Pearson Correlation Analysis and Simple Linear Regression Analysis were performed. According to the findings obtained as a result of the analyses, there are significant relationships between perceived parental relationship attitudes and marriage anxiety, and between marriage role expectations and marriage anxiety. There are significant relationships between perceived parental relationship and traditional marriage role expectations (except for the mother-authoritarian, mother-protective, father-democratic sub-dimensions) and between perceived parental relationship and egalitarian marriage role expectations (except for the mother-authoritarian sub-dimension). Unmarried individuals' perceived parental relationship attitudes towards their mother and father (authoritarian, indifferent, protective, democratic, dependent) and marriage role expectations (traditional, egalitarian) significantly predict their marriage anxiety levels. It was also found in the study that marriage anxiety showed significant differences in terms of sociodemographic variables (gender, education level, romantic relationship status, parental partnership status). It has been determined that perceived parental relationship and marriage role expectations differ significantly in some sub-dimensions in terms of sociodemographic variables and do not show significant differences in some sub-dimensions. There is no significant relationship between the variables of perceived parental relationship, marriage role expectations, and marriage anxiety and the age of the participants. The findings obtained were discussed within the framework of the relevant literature.
