Abstract (EN)
Teeth, one of the main sources of anthropology, have a great importance in revealing nutrition, which is the basic element of survival. Nutrition has an important place in revealing the social structure and health problems of the examined ancient society. For this reason, in this thesis, a microwear study was carried out to determine the nutritional regimes of Belentepe, Patara and Kibyra populations dating to the Eastern Roman/Byzantine Period and to reveal whether the region in which they lived had an effect on this situation. In order to reflect the general population, 15 first molars were selected from each of the female, male and child individuals from each population. Images were taken from the 10n, f9 and fx facets used for nutrition on the occlusal surfaces of each of the selected teeth in SEM (scanning electron microscope) at 500 magnification and the images were analyzed in the Microwear 4.02 program. The micro traces determined in the images taken during the analysis were classified according to the ratio of 4:1 and all traces with a ratio of the length of the determined trace to the depth were determined as scratches, and all traces less than or equal to this ratio were determined as pits. With the analyzes made, the number of scratches, the number of pits, the width of the scratches, the length of the scratches, the ratio of the pits, the width of the pits and the length of the pits of the micro traces determined for each facet of each tooth were determined and subjected to statistical analysis. As a result of the analyzes, it was determined that the Patara population, which is a seaside settlement, has more corrosive substances in its diet compared to the Belentepe population, which is a hill settlement, and Kibyra population, which is a high hill settlement. It was determined that the Belentepe population consumed softer foods compared to the other two populations. It has been determined that there is no difference in the way of nutrition between women, men and children in all three population, both within and between societies.
