Abstract (EN)

Religion has been an integral part of life in every period of human history and sacred places provide tangible link between human life and divine life. Mosques are also sacred structures that have been promoted since the beginning of Islam. Mosques, which have a great contribution to the formation of cities, have been at the center of life for Muslim societies. Over time, the decrease in the functions assigned to mosques and the separation of their functions into detached buildings caused mosques to turn into mere prayer structures. However, recently implemented religious policies are aimed at increasing the contribution of mosques to daily life again. The number of mosques that we group as urban-scale and neighborhood-scale mosques, which differ according to the ones who have their functions, increase by one thousand every year according to the data obtained from the Directorate of Religious Affairs. Although there is a legal regulation on construction in other building types, the absence of a legal regulation on mosque construction has made mosques an irregular structure type. Since the deficiencies in the plan studies and regulations were not clearly revealed, different opinions emerged on the use of mosque buildings. In this study; Studies on how to meet the expenses of mosques from the past to the present have been examined, then the commercial functions that mosques have added to the building in order to find financial resources have been evaluated within the scope of the historical development of the changes in the use of mosques from the cities established by the Turks in Anatolia since the early period of Islamic societies. Regardless of whether it is made in a modern or traditional style, it has been observed that there are serious problems in the formation of mosques that are evaluated with the functions included in the program.
