An investigation into narcissistic personality traits of individuals from different professions in terms of marital satisfaction and some personal variables

Abstract (EN)
In this research, it is aimed to examine the relationship between narcissistic personality traits and marital satisfaction of married individuals in different occupational groups and narcissistic personality traits in terms of some personal variables. The research group of the study consisted of 261 married individuals who work as lawyers, academicians, doctors, engineers and teachers in various institutions in Gaziantep. The research data were obtained by using the "Narcissistic Personality Inventory (NPI)", "Marital Life Scale (MLS)" and "Personal Information Form". In the analysis of the obtained dataThe One-Way Analysis of Variance (ANOVA), the Independent-Samples t-test and the Pearson Correlation Coefficient were used. As a result of the analyzes, a moderately significant and negative relationship was found between the narcissistic personality traits and marital satisfaction of the participants. When it comes to the analyzes conducted in terms of some personal variables, while a statistically significant relationship was found between the narcissistic personality traits and age, perceived income level, occupation and spouse occupation variables; There was no statistically significant relationship between gender, number of siblings, parents' education level and perceived parental attitudes. According to age variable, individuals aged 20-27 years tend to exhibit more narcissistic personality traits than individuals aged 28-31 years. It was also found that individuals who perceived their levels of income as high tended to exhibit more narcissistic personality traits. In addition, it was found that the tendency of the participating lawyers to exhibit narcissistic personality traits were higher than academicians and teachers. At the same time the tendency of the doctors to exhibit narcissistic personality traits was found to be more than the teachers. Individuals whose spouses were doctors, engineers or lawyerswere found to tend to exhibit more narcissistic personality traits than individuals whose spouses were teachers. Furthermore, it was reached that the tendency of the individuals whose spouses were lawyersto exhibit narcissistic personality traits were more than that of the individuals whose spouses have any other profession.
