Abstract (EN)
Objective: The aim of this study is to evaluate the effect of saliva contamination on bond strength of different resin cements to coronal dentin. Method: Extracted carious-free 36 human molar teeth were selected and 1/3 occlusal triad were cut flat to get a dentin surface. Resin cements (Fujicem Evolve, RelyX U200, G-Cem Veneer, Panavia V5, Panavia F 2.0) were luted to the tooth surfaces by using according to the manufacturers' instructions. Teeth were divided into 2 subgroups according to artificial saliva contamination and 6 subgroups surface treatment (n=3). Microtensile bond strength test was performed using a microtensile testing machine. The connection interface between resin cement and dentin was investigated with a dental loop and fracture types were determined. Data were analyzed with analyses of variance (ANOVA) and Tukey test was performed to identify significant differences (p=0.05). Results: The Fujicem Evolve group contaminated with saliva showed the lowest bond strength with 0.97 MPa. However, the non-contaminated Panavia V5 showed the highest bond strength value with 23.39 MPa. The decrease bond strength values of the samples Fujicem Evolve, RelyX U 200 (Total Etch) and Panavia V5 groups as a result of saliva contamination was statistically significant. While all of the samples Fujicem Evolve group had adhesive failures, the group with all failure types was Panavia V5. In all test groups, adhesive failure was the most, and cohesive failure was detected on dentin was the least. Conclusion: This study shows that saliva contamination the effect on bond strength and differences on bond strength between different types of resin cements. In addition, the bond strength needs to be improved when self-cured resin cements are compared with dual-cured resin cements. Key words: Resin cement, coronal dentin, bond strength, saliva contamination
