Social inclusion policies for individuals and groups with different sociocultural values: Example of Konya Tatlıcak neighborhood

Problems of not being able to integrate into society and others that are results of it are directly related to social work and its macro dimension, social policy. Tatlıcak is a neighborhood which is different from rest of Konya in terms of lifestyle, is relatively far from Konya city center, has a scattered settlement, houses different social groups that migrate, has a low socioeconomic level and has a high potential for crime. Social diversity in the region, inadequate services and other problems in the neighborhood prevents people of the neighborhood from integrating into themselves and people of Konya. Even though it seems like spatial exclusion from outside, Tatlıcak is a neighborhood where exclusion by identity, economic and sociocultural aspects is experienced. It is not possible to provide social democracy, social justice, social peace and social integration in a place where, besides such social exclusion, there are problems of access to social welfare resources and services. In the quantitative part of this research, which is designed as mixed method, a face-to-face survey was conducted with 358 neighborhood residents to measure their social exclusion perceptions, social distance attitudes and life satisfaction. In the qualitative part of the research, in-depth interviews were conducted with a total of 32 people consisting of two social groups with high potential for crime, local residents and professionals who know the neighborhood and work there. The data obtained from the field study were analyzed and the findings were combined. In the conclusion part, the composite structure of the problems in the neighborhood was revealed by using the grounded theory approach and the social inclusion process was planned through this structure. Social inclusion policies have been proposed to address these social risk problems, to enable neighborhood residents to integrate into society and to adopt a common life culture. Also, general social inclusion policies that provide social change are proposed for residential areas such as Tatlıcak that have individuals and groups with different socio-cultural values and have problems of integration into society.
