Abstract (EN)
This study aimed to investigate the chemical composition and antioxidant activities of the essential oils of Chenopodium botrys L. collected from different regions (Afyonkarahisar, Isparta and Konya) of Turkey. The essential oils were analyzed by GC and GC/MS. According to GC and GC-MS analysis; 27, 24, and 16 compounds were identified representing 94.45%, 96.96%, and 94.41% of the essential oils of C. botrys collected from Afyonkarahisar, Isparta and Konya, respectively. Ledol and elemol found as the major compound for the oils. Antioxidant activities of essential oils were evaluated by three different test systems namely total antioxidant activity by phospomolibdenium method, 1,1'-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) radical scavenging and reducing power. According to data obtained from phosphomolybdenum assay, Afyonkarahisar sample oil showed the highest total antioxidant activity (7.49 mmol AAEs/g oil), DPPH radical scavenging activity (13.35% at 2 mg/ml concentration), and reducing power effect (0.251 as 700 nm absorbans at 2 mg/ml concentration). It was followed by Konya sample and Isparta sample oils, respectively. In DPPH radical scavenging activity and reducing power assays, the activity was also found to increase with increasing concentration of the oils. Results obtained in this work indicate that the essential oils of Chenopodium botrys L. collected from different regions of Turkey may be useful as a source of natural agents for the management of oxidative process.
