Abstract (EN)
The aim of this study is to investigate the effects of 8-week different intensity resistance training programs on body composition, muscular strength, high sensitive C-reactive protein (hs-CRP), matrix gla protein (MGP), uric acid (UA), 8-isoprostaglandin F2α (8-iso-PGF2α), and 8-hydroxy-2'-deoxyguanosine (8-OHdG) levels. Thirty healthy premonopausal women (aged 40-60 years), who did not perform regular exercise and lived in İzmir, participated in this study. Working groups were divided into three as low-intensity group (LIEG, n:10), high-intensity group (HIEG, n:10), and control group (CG, n:10). HIEG, worked 3 days in a week and performed two sets of 8-10 repetitions at 70-75% of 1 repeat maximum (RM), whereas LIEG worked in the same duration, with 13-17 repetitions, at 40-45% of 1 RM. CG did not perform any exercises. Maximal strength tests, body composition measurements with some biomarkers in the blood played a role in the early diagnosis of cardiac risk and discoverd in recent years were done before and after resistance training program. As a result of this study, body weight, lean body weight (except LIEG), fat amount, body mass index (BMI), and body fat percentage values in HIEG and LIEG were statistically significant, but the results were in favor of HIEG. The effects of resistance exercise (RE) on UA and hs-CRP levels were not statistically significant.In three groups, there were not any change observed in the levels of 8-OHdG ve YKL-40 which are the cardiac risk markers discovered in recent years, their physiology and the relationship with exercise can not be fully explained, whereas MGP levels in both HIEG and LIEG decreased significantly. However, a reduction in 8-iso-PGF2α levels in the exercise groups and CG has been confirmed. Consequently, RE reducing oxidative stress, cardiac risk factors and vascular calcification owing to that change of body composition, maximal strength, MGP, and 8-iso-PGF2α levels in both exercise groups in positive direction, and it has been concluded that it may be useful for the prevention of cardiovascular disease.
