Determination of phenological, morphological and agronomic characters of beans (Phaseolus sp.) core collection

Abstract (EN)
Bean is an important pulse for human nutrition with the consumption of both its dry seeds and green pods. In Turkey, Niğde, Konya, Bitlis, Nevşehir, Karaman, Kayseri and Aksaray are the main growing cities for dry beans. In this study, local bean varieties collected from different cities of Turkey (Antalya, Karabük, Uşak, Rize, Muğla, Hakkâri, Balıkesir, Samsun, Tunceli and Burdur) were grown with some registered varieties (Göynük 98, Yunus 90, Karacaşehir 90, Akman 98, 40 Günlük, Cino, Sarıkız and Romanica) in the greenhouses of Akdeniz University Faculty of Agriculture in 2020 to determine phenological, morphological and agronomic characteristics. According to result of the study; APN 20118, 20119, 20125, 20133 and 20163 (dwarf); APN 20103, 20112, 20115, 20122, 20134, 20156 and 20166 (climbing) for first flowering days from phenological traits were determined. APN 20119, 20125, 20157 and 20163 (dwarf); APN 20105, 20116, 20124, 20127, 20143, 20156 and 20168 (climbing) genotypes were also determined as the earliest genotypes for days to maturity. Besides, for grain yield, which is one of the important agronomical characters, APN 20118, 20119, 20137 and 20161 (dwarf); APN 20105, 20117, 20158, 20164, 20173, 20175 and 20176 (climbing) were highest yields. It is predicted that superior local varieties with desired characteristics can be used in future breeding studies by characterizing the bean core collection.
