Teachers' attitudes towards tablet computer usage in their teaching activities within Fatih project and their innovative practices

This study aims at finding out the attitudes towards using the tablet computers in teaching activities of the teachers who work in Anatolian High Schools where the tablet computers were delivered under the Project FATİH and the innovative practises of those teachers. The research was implemented in 2014-2015 academic year, in Gaziantep city within Şahinbey and Şehitkamil districts. The study is a mixed type research. In the quantitive part the attitudes of the teachers were tried to find out by using "The Scale for Using Tablet Computers in Teaching Activities" which was developed by the researcher. It was implemented to the whole research universe of 1120. However only 683 teachers gave the feedback and their attitudes were examined if there is a significant difference between the attitudes and branch, age, experience year, how long they have been using the computers and how often they use the interactive boards via one way analysis of variance. The attitude scores of the teachers with their branch, age, experience year and how long they have been using the computers have no significant difference. Whereas, there is some significant difference in the attitudes of the teachers and how often they use the interactive boards. Moreover, in the aspects of innovative applications, it was also found out that the teachers cannot use the tablet computers in giving the homework, delivering those back, giving feedback, presenting a course, evaluation studies, and comparing the students and classes. In the qualitative part, face to face interviews were implemented. At the end of the interviews, it was found out that the teachers do not use their tablet PCs within their lessons with the aim of teaching, and they were in need of technopedagogical training.
