Abstract (EN)
This study, titled "The Adaptation of Federico Garcia Lorca's 'The House of Bernarda Alba' Play to Epic-Dialectical Theater with its Staging Processes," aims to transform a realistic play text into a directorial text using the expression tools of epic-dialectical theater and to stage the play. The study focuses on the expression tools of the director in realistic theater, which emerged in the 19th century, and in epic-dialectical theater established by Bertolt Brecht in the 20th century. Additionally, it centers on the transformation process of a realistic play text through epic-dialectical direction-acting. The method used for the research is a qualitative research method, and the data collection tools consist of document analysis and observation. The data analysis method used is descriptive analysis, which is one of the qualitative data analysis methods. As a result of the research, it is observed that the expression tools of the director in realistic theater include the text, set design, lighting, costume, props, makeup, music, special effects, dance, theater space, actor-audience relationship, image, and sound technologies, as well as actors, posters, and other promotional materials. In epic-dialectical theater, the text, actor-audience relationship, gestus, alienation effect, historicization, set design, costume, props, makeup, lighting, music and song, theater space, image, and sound technologies, actors, posters, and other promotional materials are considered the expression tools of the director. It is observed that the primary reason for transforming a realistic play text into an epic-dialectical directorial text is to alienate the original dramatic text. The transformation of the dramatic text into a directorial text involves a process of organizing the expression tools of theater on the text plane. The transformation of the text into an epic-dialectical directorial text is achieved by showing the social context behind the events in the dramatic play through acting and direction, making changes to break the tragic absoluteness in the realistic text, applying historicization, gestus, and alienation, developing acting and directing innovations obtained through changing scene arrangements to show the social relationship forms that underlie the characters' individual relationships, and making changes to the language and narrative structure of the dramatic text.
