The relationship between ontology and ethics in philosophy and the example of panentheism

All of human history is essentially a search for the meaning of life. The goal is happiness. The existence of materialist tendencies that exclude God, theist quests for meaning that ignore the universe and humanity, and the diverse practices experienced during periods dominated by Hermetic, Gnostic, Platonic, and Neo-Platonic heterodox tendencies point to the influence of ontological assumptions. The question of existence is also the basis of the moral question. It is possible to observe experiences shaped by different ontological assumptions in Indian, Chinese, Persian, and Egyptian societies. This interaction is more clearly observed in Western thought, where thought began to be recorded primarily in written form. In the humanist era, the human, in the Middle Ages, God, and in the Modern Age, all material-centered assumptions can be seen as the cause of different moral tendencies. Therefore, every painful experience a person experiences necessitates a new moral quest to re-establish happiness, and the initial discussions in this quest focused on existence. Ontological conceptions, a key discipline in philosophy throughout the history of thought, hold a debatable significance in shaping the ethical field. We believe that studying the extent to which this fundamental element, which determines morality, influences actions will be a crucial approach in defining the framework of ethics. Therefore, the role of these ontological conceptions, which serve as the driving force of practical actions, in shaping morality constitutes the core theme of our study. In this study, the relationship between ontology and morality is presented within a general framework, and we attempt to ground our thesis by using pantheism, an ontological determination, as an example. We believe that revealing the relationship between morality and ontological assumptions will provide significant insight into determining what constitutes "true good."
