Abstract (EN)

The aim of this study is to determine the care needs of patients over the age of 65 who are hospitalized with femoral fracture and undergo surgical treatment by assessing their health perception and self-care evaluation results, provide recommendations related to these needs, and pioneer training programs tailored to the patients' requirements. The sample of the study was calculated using the known sampling calculation formula, resulting in a sample size of 152 individuals out of a population of 250, with a 95% confidence interval and a 5% margin of error, assuming a 50% incidence rate. Patients over the age of 65 who were admitted to Başakşehir Çam and Sakura City Hospital due to femur fracture and underwent surgical treatment were considered, and face-to-face data collection was conducted. The collected research data were analyzed using the SPSS-22 for Windows statistical software package, specifically designed for social sciences. Firstly, the normality values and reliability coefficients of the data were calculated based on the obtained scale data. A positive and moderate-strength significant relationship was found between total health perception and total self-care power (r=0.596, p<0.01). Accordingly, it was observed that as the overall health perception levels increase in patients over the age of 65 who underwent surgical treatment for femoral head fracture, their self-care power levels also increase. Geriatric individuals tend to have low health perception and self-care power. The sub-parameters affecting them were found to be higher health perception and self-care power in those who are married, have a high income status, are male, and are frail. Individuals with high health perception also demonstrate high levels of self-care power.
