Examining studies containing educational game in science teaching: A meta-synthesis study

This study was carried out to determine the general status of the studies conducted by examining and analyzing master's thesis, doctoral thesis and articles on the application of the educational game method in science teaching in Turkey. Meta-synthesis method was used in the study. The data source of this study is 48 master's theses, 7 doctoral dissertations and 42 articles using experimental-semi-experimental, quantitative methods and mixed methods, which investigate the effect of educational game method in science teaching, reached with the determined keywords. These thesis and articles were examined through the determined themes. Among the studies, the most studies were carried out at the graduate level in 2019. While the 7th grade students constitute the sample group the most, the size of the sample group consists of (50-100) people. Among the publication types of the studies, the studies with a maximum (4-7) week period of implementation continued. The most quantitative research method was used in the studies and the experimental design was preferred as the research design. In the analyzed studies, "Living and Life" was mostly done in the learning field, while "Achievement Tests" were used as a data collection tool. In the light of the discussions and conclusions based on the data obtained at the end of the research, necessary suggestions were presented to those who will carry out related or similar studies.
